It is estimated that in 2000, in Italy, 51,874 new major coronary events occurred in men aged 25-84 years and 26,934 in women of the same age range. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) was 227.3 events per 100 thousand men and 97.9 events per 100 thousand women.
These incidence rates derive from the incidence and survival data
collected in the MONICA Register-Friuli Area, and processed using
the MIAMOD model together with ISTAT demographic and mortality data.
