Local health units/Regions, according to local agreements and Prevention Plans, may choose to:
In both cases, whether support from ISS is required or not, it is necessary to contact the reference persons of ISS (Luigi Palmieri luigi.palmieri@iss.it; Chiara Donfrancesco chiara.donfrancesco@iss.it) and to agree on the course dates and methods.
If the Local health unit/Region chooses the first option, the course will be run by trainers from ISS who will undertake to organize and hold the lessons. The trainers from ISS will thus have the task to train a maximum of 12 new trainers and to supervise the first course run by the latter.
If the Local health unit/Region chooses the second option, it will in any case have to follow the training modules reported in the handbooks elaborated by ISS and prepare the necessary materials, in direct collaboration with the ISS.
Presently, it is possible to ask for the first two modules only. The programme for trainers lasts four days, reaching a total of thirty hours (8+8+7+7), and comes after a preliminary module lasting two weeks which foresees study, bibliographical and website research. Depending on the Local health unit/Region and ISS needs, the four days may be consecutive or separate.
The training path is described in detail in the introduction to the handbook.
The group of new trainers consists of maximum 12 persons, supported by two or three lead trainers (trainers from ISS, if support from ISS is chosen).
During the first two days, the lead trainers illustrate the contents of modules 1 and 2; then follows a theoretical-practical phase on how to train adults, during which the new trainers simulate teaching activities using the micro-didactic technique.
On the third and fourth day, the new trainers, split into two groups, organize and teach modules 1 and 2 to two groups of a maximum of 20 participants each, under the supervision of one or two lead trainers. At the end of the four days, the new and the lead trainers will meet to evaluate training.
In order to ensure a good level of interactivity and active participation, it is recommended that each course for trainers should have a maximum of 12 participants, and that each course trained by the new trainers, should consist of no more than 20 people.
