Migrants: lipidic asset

The Oec/Hes 2008-12 survey shows that:

In migrants (mean age: 49 years old in men and 50 in women) the mean value of total cholesterol (men: 213 mg/dl; women 215 mg/dl) and LDL cholesterol (men 133 mg/dl; women 130 mg/dl) are almost the same in both genders. The mean value of HDL cholesterol is higher in women than in men (64 mg/dl and 50 mg/dl respectively). At the opposite, the mean value of triglycerides is higher in men than in women (152 mg/dl and 103 mg/dl respectively). The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia is around 30% in both genders; high values with no significant differences between genders are also observed for the high prevalence of LDL (69.1% in men and 61.7% in women) while the condition of hypertriglyceridemia is much more widespread among male migrants than in women (36.1% 17.8% respectively). The hypercholesterolemia controls are very poor: only about 18% of hypercholesterolemic patients are adequately treated.
