Migrants: glycemia & diabetes

The Oec/Hes 2008-12 survey shows that:

In migrants (mean age: 49 years old in men and 50 in women) the average fasting glycemia value is almost the same for men and women (97mg/dl and 93 mg/dl respectively). The same was observed for the prevalence of diabetes (7.3% in men and 6.5% in women) and for the prevalence of hyperglycemia (9.4% in men and 4.6% in women). The diabetes control is better in women: almost 80% of diabetic women are aware of their condition compared to only 50% of men; moreover, about 60% of diabetic women are treated compared to 36% of men. However, it should be noted that the percentage of diabetics who are adequately treated is low and similar in both genders (17.6% in women and 14.3% in men). About a quarter of migrants have the metabolic syndrome, with no gender difference.
