BRIDGE Health

The project BRIDGE Health (Bridging Information and Data Generation for Evidence based Health Policy and Research) has been launched by EU in May 2015 with the aim of creating European health information (EU-HI) and data generation networks covering major EU health policy areas. The networks used comprehensive experience and assured a knowledge transfer from past health and research frameworks. The goal was to work towards a comprehensive, integrated and sustainable EU-HI supporting evidence-based health policy and research for the EU and Member States by providing blueprints and/or concepts of building blocks for a future EU-HI research infrastructure consortium (ERIC-HI).

The project lasted 30 months and involved 16 EU countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Italy, United Kingdom, Portugal, Slovenia, Hungary, Sweden, Austria.

The project bridged key EU projects in domains of population and health system monitoring and indicator development, health examination surveys, environment and health, population injury and diseases registries, clinical and administrative health data collection systems and methods of health system monitoring and evaluation.

Coordination, dialogue and interaction with DG-Santé, the Expert Group on Health Information, Eurostat, DG Research and other DGs ensured the sustainability of the work and bridged to a future ERIC-HI (European research infrastructure consortium for Health Information).

The project was coordinated by Herman Van Oyen (Institut Scientific de Santè Publique di Bruxelles) and consisted of 12 work packages (WP) and in 7 horizontal activities (HA).

The leadership of WP 8 (Platform for population based registries) and of HA 5 (Data quality methods including internal and external validation of indicators) was assigned to Istituto Superiore di Sanità. For more information on WP 8 and HA 5 visit the dedicated pages.
