The software cuore.exe is intended for
assessing cardiovascular
risk and can be downloaded, free of charge, from the website of
the Cuore project
by general practitioners, specialists, transfusion services,
cardiovascular prevention centers and pharmacies. Once installed on
a PC, the software allows you to work offline and:
- to assess the probability of developing a first
major
cardiovascular event (myocardial
infarction or stroke) over the following 10 years, when the values of eight
risk factors are known: gender, age, diabetes, smoking habit,
systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol level, HDL-cholesterol
level and antihypertensive drug treatment
-
to assess the probability of developing a first
major cardiovascular event (myocardial
infarction or
stroke) over the following 10 years, when the values of
eight risk factors are known: gender, age, diabetes, smoking
habit, systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol level,
HDL-cholesterol level and antihypertensive drug treatment
- to compare the risk with that of a person examined within
the CUORE project having “desirable” levels of all modifiable
risk factors: non-smoker, non-diabetic, not undergoing
antihypertensive treatment, systolic pressure equal to or lower
than 120 mmHg, and cholesterol level lower than 200 mg/dl
- to estimate how much the risk of a smoker would be reduced
if he or she stopped smoking for at least one year, all other
factors remaining unchanged
- to print out the patient’s risk score, including some
recommendations for lifestyle and therapy, if prescribed.
- to set up a data archive, useful to monitor the
cardiovascular risk trend of patients over time
- to keep a record of the prescribed therapies and lifestyle
recommendations given to patients
- to collect data related to obesity and overweight
- to record any eventual cardiovascular event of patients
- to elaborate statistics on the data stored in archive
- to use and print the cardiovascular risk charts.
On the basis of the
score obtained, patients are classified into:
- high-risk (risk equal to or greater than 20%)
- to be kept under control by adopting a healthy lifestyle (risk
equal to or
greater than 3%
and lower than 20%)
- low-risk (risk lower than 3%).
It is recommended to assess cardiovascular risk using the
cuore.exe programme:
- every six months for patients with a high cardiovascular
risk
- every year for patients to be kept under control by adopting
a healthy lifestyle
- every five years for low-risk patients.
Cuore.exe is made available for use free of charge by the
National Institute of Health and can be downloaded only from this
website. Any reproduction must ensure the integrity of the
information contained in the texts.
The software is periodically updated; as soon as a new version is
available, each registered user will be notified by e-mail and will
be able to download it from the website.
The current version for general practitioners, specialists,
transfusion services and cardiovascular prevention centers is
the 2.1.0, valid from December 19th, 2008 to December 18th, 2009.
